How to Kill Your Family. Need I say more?

How to Kill Your Family Review

By Sithmi

They say you can't choose your family, but you can kill them...
Meet Grace Bernard.
Daughter, sister, colleague, friend, serial killer...
Grace has lost everything. And now she wants revenge.

Grace is the product of a short fling between a rich millionaire and a French model. She's raised singlehandedly by her mother, not knowing of her father until her mother passes. When Grace Bernard learns how her rich father, who had his own family, had abandoned her pregnant mother and dismissed her pleas for aid on her final days, she swears on her mother's corpse to destroy her father's family, the Artemis clan.

And so we travel with Grace in her first person POV, as she picks off one member at a time, building up the suspense until she gets to her final target, her father. But here's a twist. Grace is in jail. For a crime she supposedly did not commit.

The story's chronological order is mixed with each murder she commits, and her current present time spent in jail, alongside what led her in to a jail cell. Grace likes to ramble, as her cynical fixed opinions interrupt the story continuously, lengthening the story and building apprehension. There's certainly interesting commentary on feminism, misogyny, the richest 1% of the world, gen Z and such.

Grace can come off as a bit of a 'pick me' girl as she critics other women and the luxuries she was robbed of, appearing indifferent and superior. However, the undertone is clear: she is bitter and jealous.

Nevertheless, Grace is a very focused individual, doing whatever it takes to reach her murderous goals. Her determination to see the end of the Artemis clan, her creative methods of killing each member and the effort she puts in, is the highlight of her character.

It can seem like a slow and long read, but its got its funny and murderous moments. And the end definitely catches you.
