Palace of Treason

Palace of Treason Review

By Sithmi

In the return of the beloved Dominika Egorova and Nathaniel Nash, we find that our Russian agent, code named DIVA, has a horrible superior. Alexei Zyuganov, the Chief of Line KR, the counterintelligence department in Russia, is a rotten little dwarf with dark eyes who wants to see Dominika fail publicly. And it seems he was going to stop at nothing to make sure of it.

It goes to show that Russia truly will backstab their own if it means they as individuals will win. So the story is set to show that it’s a fight to showcase their strengths, and their devout loyalty to the Rhodina, Motherland, between Colonel Egorova and Chief Zyuganov as each of them develop their own agents on foreign soil. But moreover, it’s a fight to win the favour of the reclusive President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

In the middle of this fight, we discover a new mole appears inside the CIA, providing the Russians and Alexei with great intel. Slowly it becomes apparent to the group we love, Benford, Forsyth, Gable and Nathaniel, that this mole could very possibly leak the name of DIVA and the blue eyed Russian agent would be caught.

So a mole hunt ensues on both sides, in America and Russia through DIVA who is now securing her own place in the Kremlin Palace as President Putin takes close notice of the former prima ballerina turned sparrow in the cold hills of Russia. It takes us around the world, finally stopping in Paris after a whirlwind of plot twists and adventures and meeting new people.

Amidst the rush of espionage though officers and agents find comfort with each other but that doesn’t always make it permissible. With the introduction of a new bright star and the thorough training conducted by the team, a new officer is recruited to help DIVA in Russia as well. There are cold fronts and mind games and hostility, but to survive, everyone needs to compromise and sometimes sacrifice. And that’s what we see through this new character.

There is also the obvious evils of this work, the politics involved and the envious eyes around the successful workers. The darkness that surrounds them is vicious and flabbergasting in the least. There are certain limits crossed under the red clouded vision of blind rage, envy and the sweet promise of revenge.

I did love that Jason saved us from a cliff hanger ending and showed us that Dominika got promoted. You’ll have to read to find out how.
