Let It Snow Review

Three stories. One Christmas.

The Jubilee Express
by Maureen Johnson

This short story was really funny and sweet in its strange humorous way. Jubilee's parents are in jail, for being part of the Flobie Five. And so our main character of this story is stuck in Gracetown in the snow with 14 cheerleaders. She finds her escape with Stuart Weintraub as he invites her to his house to spend the night. Along the way her love life is once more questioned and hilariously they're plunged chest deep into an icy lake. A trek later, she's wrapped well in warm clothing and blankets.

There are several funny moments in the story as it hurtles Jubilee into several uncomfortable and strange situations. How she easily adapts I find amazing. From train rides with cheerleaders to Tinfoil Guy to frozen lake to Stuart's mom.

Despite all that, she keeps hoping things will be okay, mostly depending on her overachieving boyfriend Noah, who is constantly busy.

I love Stuart over Jubilee because come on, he is funny and so sweet. And I honestly think he deserves all this love. Jubilee, our current naïve character quickly learns how she should put herself first and not give into other people's desires.

A Cheertastic Christmas
by John Green

Okay so Green wrote this so yes, intellectual kids are expected; Tobin, Duke and JP. I liked this theme in this one a lot. It focused on seeing people, truly looking into their heart and soul. As in realising Duke is a GIRL and so of course she  has feelings too. Though she isn't the average girl that loves clothes and hair, and is overly feminine, she still has crushes on James Bond and normal guys.

The difference is shown to Tobin, our main character, through the mad dash to the cheerleader filled Waffle House, to be the first group there. They crash the car and run with wet socks on snow and even end up sliding down a hill on the Twister mat in a hopeful attempt to reach the destination faster.

After a freezing night out, all in hopes of delicious hash browns for Duke and cheerleaders' attention for the guys, Tobin and Duke become a little more aware of themselves.

The Patron Saint of Pigs
by Lauren Myracle

I loves the theme of this story because it represented change that was very badly needed. Self focused main character, Addie keeps making the story about her with a new 'crisis' everyday. It really makes me hate her. But she has a good heart.

The fact that she finally steps up after a bunch of blunders, to prove the universe wrong about her, is good. I like how she finally gets the hint and accepts it. And you gotta love how Mazie messes up things so that she gets her 'wings' as an 'angel' when Addie passes the test. I'm so happy for Tegan and Gabriel safe in his little teacup. Gladly the ending is adorable and just so satisfactory. I love how it all comes together.

Also Tinfoil Guy, he's everywhere.

Overall, it was all cute and cozy stories that were perfect for Christmas. This was my second time reading it before Christmas and it really gets you in the vibe. Or at least the feeling of cold cold heavy snow. This book is a must read for Christmas season.
